Livu Square in Cesis was recently converted from a street into a pedestrian zone, guarded by massive flower pots. While a more permanent design is in the works, people want to sit somewhere today. And we decided to make our debut as furniture designers.

Ar «Latvijas Valsts ceļi» gādību mūsu rīcībā nonāca radars, un mēs veicām automašīnu braukšanas ātruma mērījumus trīs maģistrālu virzienu ielās — A. Čaka, Kr. Barona un Brīvības. Izvēlējamies dienas vidu (12.00–13.00), kad mazāk sastrēgumu un ielas vidus posmus starp krustojumiem, kur ātrumu mazāk ietekmē bremzēšana un braukšanas uzsākšana. Katrai ielai vidēji veltījām 20 minūtes, veicot vismaz 100 mērījumus katrā.

This year, we are going to explore the picturesque and the utilitarian green areas both within and around Cesis. What does a modern day Arcadia entail? Does it accommodate urban agriculture, water management, wildlife reintroduction, ecotourism, well–being of the body and the mind?

Viens no iemesliem, kāpēc šeit ilgu laiku esmu klusējis, ir apjomīgais darbs pie Rīgas velotransporta stratēģijas izstrādes, ar ko nodarbojos lielāko daļu 2014. gada. Ap Rīgas veloinfrastruktūras ieviešanu virmojis ne mazums kaislību, un turpmāk soli pa solim mēģināšu izskaidrot visus ar risinājumiem un ieviešanas procesiem saistītos jautājumus. Būs interesanti. Bet pagaidām saite uz dokumentu un ideālais krustojums.

Nule kā notikušajā Rīgas domes Satiksmes departamenta organizētajā velo konferencē tika uzaicināti arī FYU. Prezentācijā apkopoju ielu dizaina #1 un #2 rakstus, kā arī pievienoju līdz šim trūkstošo elementu — velo infrastruktūru. Prezentāciju skatīt šeit

FYU were invited do give a presentation in a conference dedicated to bike infrastructure organised by Riga City Council Department of Transportation. Here is the full presentation in Latvian, which combines articles on Street design #1 and #2 plus a previously missing integral part — bike infrastructure.
